If you were kidnapped and woke up to find yourself in a strange city, you would know you were in Seville in an instant, for few places have such a distinctive feel to them - Seville is like a distillation of Andalucia: patios and cobbled streets, sherry and olives, beer and tapas, music and fiestas. And Seville is the home of the picaresque, loveable ruffians you would really rather not get too close to, and of mythical passions, in the figures of Don Juan or Bizet's Carmen. Towering above it all, representing and symbolising it, the unmistakable Giralda, the minaret made cathedral bell tower, without losing its Moorish identity in the process, rather like the city itself. Visit Seville, or read on for more details.

I have overhauled the Seville pages, mainly because I am preparing a trip there in the near future. The Spain and Portugal for Visitors Seville section now covers the city, its bars and pubs, fiestas, nightlife and transport, among other things, including its most important sights: Seville Cathedral and the Giralda, the Real Alcázar, the Torre de Oro, Archive of the Indies, Charity Hospital and bullring, as well as its best museums, the Archaeological Museum, Fine Art Museum, and the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs. Visit Seville.
