Catedral de Sevilla

Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the third largest of all, after Saint Peter's in Rome and Saint Paul's in London. Its belltower, the Giralda, once the minaret of a mosque, is the city's most emblematic feature. This is the Spanish-only website of Seville Cathedral's cabildo, chapter.

Hospital de la Caridad

Baroque hospital built and maintained by the Brotherhood of the same name, which dedicated itself to "burying those who drowned in the river or were executed." Its main interest to us degenerates is that its chairman and driving force was Don Miguel de Mañara, thought to have been the model for Zorilla's most enduring creation, Don Juan Tenorio himself, otherwise known as Don Giovanni, or simply Don Juan.

Maestranza

To give it its full name, Seville's bullring is La Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla, reflecting its origins - the Cuerpo Real de Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla was an order of chivalry which gave public displays of horsemanship.

Real Alcázar de Sevilla

An alcázar was a Moorish fortress-cum-palace (though sometimes the term is incorrectly used for later constructions). Seville's Royal Alcázar, founded in the 10th century, is one of the city's most unmissable sights. The link above works only sometimes.

Seville Sights

Even if Jeff Spielvogel's Explore Seville refers to them as "sites of Seville," I don't think "siteseeing" is going to oust "sightseeing" as a tourist activity. The list, though is immaculately selected, illuminatingly and entertainingly annotated, and illustrated by Jeff's own pictures and photo tours (I use auto focus 99.9% of the time, as well).
