Las Escobas

Las Escobas ("The Brooms") claims to have been a tavern since 1386, and you will come across articles of the gushier kind which say that makes it the oldest restaurant in the country.* Not that it matters, but I say that people who can't tell the difference between a tavern and a restaurant shouldn't be allowed to write Christmas cards, much less travel articles. This complete non-issue apart, Las Escobas is as good a choice of tavern (or restaurant) as you will find in the streets west of the cathedral and does have a certain charm which may make it worth your while queuing for a table. *The oldest restaurant in Spain is actually Botin, Madrid.

Restaurante Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz district of Seville is its former judería, Jewish quarter, and the city's most atmospheric area, with weathered white stone houses and bursts of colorful window boxes. The Restaurante Santa Cruz serves sausages, cured hams, tapas starters and a variety of soups and seafood. Reservations recommended.
