Salamanca

One of the oldest university towns in the world, famous for its plaza mayor, generally considered the most perfect example in Spain. This is Salamanca's municipal tourism department's site, very nicely designed and as hi-tech as anything you are likely to find on the net. Select "cultural routes" for the most interesting sights.

Salamanca

Salamanca is famous as one of the oldest university cities in Europe (visit in term time if you want to enjoy its nightlife), but its interest does not stop there. It is a wealthy city with a great deal of architectural interest (its Plaza Mayor is considered the most perfect in Spain), having been the birthplace of two styles of architecture: Plateresque and the less well known Churrigueresque, a mainly ecclesiastical style. This is an e-government type municipal site, in Spanish only.

Salamanca - World Heritage City

World Heritage Cities of Spain always behaves in the same way. You get one or two pages in dodgy English, then the rest is only available in Spanish. The information is, however, great and the photos are splendid.

University of Salamanca

Without the university, Salamanca would be little more than a market town.
