Cullera is one of those towns where the seafront has been spoilt by overdevelopment and high buildings too close to the beach, but has a historic centre and a castle to compensate. It also has 15 km of beach within its municipal limits. It is very much a resort, dead as a dodo in winter, popular with Spaniards rather than foreigners.

The first resort of any size you come to south of the city of Valencia is a pleasant, historic place with a castle, fishing boats and great beaches.

This historic town has been seriously spoilt, though less than other places in the Spansih Med, and you can still feel rather than see the traces of the charm that made it attractive to developers and their like. It does have a splendid castle, and its location at the mouth of the River Júcar (which is what made it important in the first place) is just one reason why the local inland scenery is worth exploring. All in all, it is a pleasant enough place for a few days of Spanish seaside. The link goes to its municipal website, in Spanish and Valencià.
