Vale do Lobo

Vale de Lobo means golf. Oh, it has a blue-flag beach, villas and apartments, a bank, supermarket, medical centre, shops, restaurants, and so on, but even its other sporting attractions, the "largest tennis facility in Portugal," a lawn bowling club and a gym, pale beside Vale do Lobo's two golf courses. The Ocean Golf Course, designed by British golfer Henry Cotton, offers "some of the most incredible ocean views in the Algarve," and apparently the 16th hole of the Royal Golf Course is "one of the most celebrated golfing images in the world." I expect all this makes golfers drool at the mouth, but I can't help wondering, what's a Royal Golf Course doing in the Republic of Portugal?
