Ayuntamiento de Viana

The holding page for what should be Viana's municipal website. Until the new site is up, you can find some old, Spanish-only content by browsing from, e.g., here.

Viana

Viana is a small (pop. < 4,000), industrial and farming town in the far west of Navarre, almost in La Rioja. It is an important stop on the Camino de Santiago, and a historic place in other regards, particularly as the capital of the Principality of Viana. This was the result of royal copycatting, established at the beginning of the fifteenth century for the heir to the throne of Navarre by Charles III, jealous of Castile's new Principality of Asturias, in turn, an imitation of the English Principality of Wales (royalty are such social climbers, aren't they?). I am not sure who is responsible for this Spanish-only websiste, but it is not municipal.
