The municipality of Loulé borders on and merges with that of Faro, to such a degree that the Algarve Stadium (used for the Eurocopa 2004 football tournament) is considered to belong to Faro - Loulé jointly. It lies inland from Faro, but a few beaches fall within the municipality.
