El Vendrell is schizophrenically divided between its identities as the capital of the Baix Penedès wine-making region and as a beach resort. It is also the birthplace of the great cellist Pau Casals, as testified by the existence of the Villa Casals - Casals Museum, the Casals Auditorium and the Casa Nativa Pau Casals, the house in which he was born.
