Map of Andorra

Andorra,

Andorra is one of the smallest countries in the world, so small that, in spite of its mountainous location in the Pyrenees and its winding roads, the drive across it takes less than an hour. In fact, it is so small that it only really has one main road, though different stretches of it are called the CG1 or the CG2, and as Andorra has no airport, that is how you will enter. Andorra is a country of contradictions, a principality without a prince, a non-EU country where the currency is the euro.

Most of Andorra's visitors come for the shopping, for Andorra's free-port status. It is still largely duty-free, so many of these Spanish and French tourists are seeking alcohol or tobacco products, but it has no value-added tax, either, so Spanish and French consumer goods are cheaper in Andorran shops - electrical goods are very popular.

The other tourist attraction is Andorra's mountains, which have an average height of nearly 2,000 metres, and Andorra's highest peak, Coma Pedrosa, soars to 2,946 m. Skiing and winter sports in general are the biggest draw, and Andorra has some important ski resorts such as Grand Valira and Pal/Arinsal. Outside the ski season, Andorra is popular with walkers, hikers, climbers, anglers and other outdoor sporty types. It also has a major spa, Caldea.

The Google map above shows the main ski resorts in Andorra. Those marked in blue are part of Grand Valira, the red markers indicate VallNord.
