Map of Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain

Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain, Spain

First it was the fabulous, 24,000-year-old cave paintings of Altamira, then another seventeen locations in Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country were added to the World Heritage site. Visitable caves are shown on the map with a blue marker, the red marker indicating there is no public access, at least for the moment.

Note that Altamira itself is now closed to visitors altogether, but that the adjacent neocueva offers an interesting reconstruction and more.
