We have a holiday booked in Benalmádena for the last week in August. Your article about the Heat Alert has made me a bit nervous about it, though - I'm not very good with really high temperatures, and our kids are fair and blond and easily burnt. Should we cancel?

Oh, no, definitely not. That story was at the beginning of August, the heat was only bad for a few days. It's eased off and in fact, overall, it's been the most bearable summer I can remember here, not oppressive at all.

Heat and sun are different things, though, and if your children burn easily you need to be just as careful whether it's scorching or just warm. I don't know what protection factor doctors are recommending for children these days, something like 40 I imagine. So take care and enjoy yourselves.
