Bus Montegordo to Huelva Due to Rental Car Drop Off Charges?

Anonymous Posted: 28.07.2005, 11:07
Unregistered User I just discovered the huge cross country drop off charges when renting a car from Lisbon to Sevilla for 7 days. The drop off charge through Auto Europe is 530 euros, over and above the rental rate! This is because of renting in one country and returning in another.

So, we are planning instead to break it into two rentals, one in Portugal from Lisbon to Montegordo/V Real St Antonio and the other in Spain from Huelva to Sevilla. We need to get from Montegordo/V Real St Antonio to Huelva, I assume bus is the best way to go (there are four of us). Any suggestions on which bus line travels that route? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Huelva's bus company is Damas - you'll find the link in the Moving Around section, under "Intercity Buses." It has two buses a day between Huelva and Faro, which pass through Vila Real, what I can't swear is that they stop, but I imagine they do.

In any case, at Vila Real you can get the ferry across the Guadiana to Ayamonte, it's something like a twenty-minute or half-hour trip, and quite fun, unless they've radically changed it since the last time I did it. It's one of those low-in-the-water car ferries, and you can look over the side and see the swarms of Portuguese men-of-war, you know those really terrifying jellyfish, and pretend to throw each other in, or at least that's what everyone else does. From Ayamonte, there are any number of buses for Huelva (you might even be able to pick your car up there directly).
