SPV Business Links Directory

Selected Links

Banco de España
Though less attractive than its Lusitanian counterpart below, the Spanish central bank's website also offers a great deal of information: statistics, working papers, legislation, economic indicators...

Banco de Portugal
The Portuguese central bank's website has a tremendous amount of information, statistics, working papers, legislation, economic indicators... It is attractively designed, lets you choose between HTML and Javascript versions, and the English is better than on the Banco de España's website.

BizEurope - Spain
This is part of a website claiming to be "Europe's leading import and export portal and b2b portal," maintained by a Dutch multimedia publisher called UGA Media. In fact, its coverage is not limited to Spain, Portugal and the rest of Europe, but extends to most of the world. It is aimed at "professional traders only," and much of the site is only available to members, but businessmen and even the idle curious will find quite a lot of free information as well. I found its extensive link collections especially interesting. For members, its possibilities include directories of importers and distributors, company profiles, and buy leads. The $150 cost of membership is too steep for me, but if you are interested that probably means it is small change to you.

Business in Spain
Although this site is actually the product of a web design company, it is worth rooting around in for its wealth of links.

Camerdata
I believe this site is maintained by the Spanish Association of Chambers of Commerce, or whatever its name is, and anyway I am not at all sure. The most useful part of the site is the company search engine, which I think must be the most complete directory of Spanish companies available, except perhaps for the Central Mercantile Registry discussed below. The search engine is tricky to use until you get the hang of the way it uses tax categories to classify companies. You are limited to 10 results per search on the free version, but if you filter with cunning this can be quite useful, or you can pay €110 for the full search capacity.

Central Mercantile Register - Spain
This trade register contains information on all registered Spanish companies since 1990. I do not know how much information, though — although so far as I can tell it is not expensive to use, you have to print out a pdf form and mail it to register as a user.

The Euro
The official site. Is there an official website for the yen? Does the dollar maintain a weblog? Is the pound given to spending entire nights in a chatroom under a false identity, preferably something daring and exotic like the ouguiya or the Hryvnia? In fact, there is much of interest here, especially and unsurprisingly in the section "Banknotes and Coins."

European Central Bank
With the introduction of the euro, monetary policy in Europe has been placed firmly in the hands of the ECB. Its site is not for the uninitiated, concentrating on exchange rates and the like, though the section dedicated to TARGET (a pan-European bank clearing system, so far as this layman can tell) may be of interest.

Exportugal
Official export directory of Portugal.

ICEX - the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute
Unfortunately, a Spanish-only page with a tremendous amount of information. The Instituto Español de Comercio EXterior, dependent on the Spanish Ministry of the Economy, is intended to help Spanish exporters and, therefore, foreign buyers. Its statistics alone make it worth looking at.

IFEMA
The most important trade fairs to be held in Madrid between now and, at the time of writing, 2006 are listed on this high-tech, visually impressive site. It has a tendency to slide back into Spanish, though.

Fira de Barcelona
The Fira is to Barcelona what IFEMA is to Madrid, especially important being the Pasarela Gaudi, a fashion show which I believe attracts even more designers than its Madrid equivalent, the Pasarela Cibeles (I am not an expert on this and am prepared to be corrected).

Portugal in Business
Trade shows, contact listing and associations and financial institutions, from the Portugal.org people.

Portugal Offer
This directory looks like a leg-pull to me, though I am not saying you will not find it useful. It is the baby of one António Neto da Silva, a "Portuguese entrepreneur with a vast amount of experience in dealing with foreign trade and foreign investment," who has held two public positions related with exporting, both for around a year.

SIMO - The Madrid Computer Trade Fair
One of the three most important computing and telecommunications trade fairs in Europe. This site has plenty of information both for visitors and exhibitors.

Hotels
Hotel Club
This booking service covers a very wide range of places in both Spain and Portugal.

Venere.com
An on-line booking service with great discounts.

Car Hire
Auto Europe
Car rental, motor homes, minibuses... And an interesting short-term lease option.
