The Costa Dorada or Daurada, the Golden Coast, which runs north-east and south-west of Tarragona, is so named both for the colour of its beaches and the quality of the light. It is a good place for a break if you are driving south from Barcelona/Catalonia, or simply to find a good beach.

Costa Daurada
The site of the Tourist Board of the Tarragona Provincial Government sits a little uneasily between being a tourist guide and an official site. Are we, as tourists, really interested in demographics, for example? And the 'orography' section is strictly for geographers. The site does have a lot of good, useful information, though, on what to see and do, accommodation, fiestas and so forth. I especially liked the Art and Culture section. And, importantly, it is very fast and user-friendly, being low-tech without looking old-fashioned. Recommended.

Costa Dorada - the Golden Coast
I know it is a little unfair of me to include these text-only guides from SpainTour, the old website of the Spanish Tourist Board, but they really are well written. And while their new site at TourSpain is excellent, it is less linkable. Here you will find dollops of information, if you do not mind doing without pictures.

Salou
Salou is perhaps best described as a family resort: tall buildings, wide avenues... Here is the site of the municipal tourist board, which is first-rate - comprehensive, informative and entertaining. It is a little too high-tech (read sloow) on the way in, but gets faster.

Salou Uncovered
A UK site (that must be why "Pubs" comes at the top of the index) with a clever name and lots of information. A little too amateur/commercial (they are not incompatible) to be first-class, and the English suggests that the UK address is a front. Likeable and enjoyable enough, though.
