Cala Millor and Cala Bona
In the north-east of Mallorca, Cala Millor is larger, more sprawling and less upmarket than Cala d'Or further south, and much more of a family resort than Magalluf or S'Arenal. Cala Bona is smaller and quieter than its neighbour.

Calamillor-mallorca.com
An endearing site from Ian Morrison. This sentence speaks volumes: "Most of the British Bars offer night-time entertainment like quizzes, bingo, race nights, karaoke, Play Your Cards Right, plus live entertainers."

Calvià
Mallorca Now calls Calvià "a beautiful example of an authentic Majorquin village," in which context it is referred to as "Calvià Vila," to distinguish it from coastal resorts like Magalluf and Palma Nova which fall within the municipality.

Calvia.com
Town council site which does not feel the least bit municipal, in fact it is as smart an affair as I have had the pleasure to see on the Internet in a long time. Unsurprisingly, the most interesting stuff is to be found clicking "Visit Calvià and its touristic areas." The exhortation to residents to "Complain more" puzzles me, though - are Calvians famous whingers, or do they need to go through some kind of access control to get into the site (enter User ID, password, gripe)?

Calvia-mallorca.com
A cumbersome name for a rather good commercial site.

Ca'n Pastilla
A newer, smaller, nicer and quieter version of neighbouring S'Arenal.

Can-Pastilla.co.uk
It takes a certain courage to go back to something that has failed in the past, so I wish this site well as it comes back on line. Listings, links and cheap cigarettes.

Deià
One of the most attractive villages on Majorca, Deià has long been frequented by artists and other bohemians, most famously Robert Graves.

Deia.info
A site by Jeremy Lynton (see under Soller, below), and one of his better ones.

Deia - from the BBC
An article by one Carole Smillie, who writes about herself in the third person. Sign of the times: she mentions Michael Douglas but not Robert Graves.

Deià - the municipal site
Absolutely first rate, especially considering that Deià is one of the smallest places on the island (pop. 613).

Magaluf/Magalluf and Palma Nova

Magalluf has a reputation as a young people's (not to say lager louts') resort, which is at least to a certain extent justified. If high-rise is not your thing and, especially, if you are bothered by noise and serious partying and all that entails, this may not be the place for you and you would be advised to at least check to see what kind of neighbours you are likely to have. On the other hand, you can find really good hotel deals for Magalluf, developments are usually of good quality (when finished) and most people have a great time there. Palma Nova is a slightly quieter place, mainly because it is a little less developed, and said to be a good place for a holiday with children.

Magalluf-Palma Nova.com
A surprisngly staid site sponsored by the Magalluf and Palma Nova Scene, a local print magazine which I have never seen but must be full of classified ads, if this web site is anything to go by.

Palma Nova - from Majorca-Mallorca.co.uk
The lowdown from this double-barrelled URL, the best part being the introduction..

Shagalluf
This site explains that its name is a reference to "the classic... (American) ...dance from the 1930's," so shame on you if you were thinking anything else. A most enjoyable site with lots of information about bars and clubs, especially, and even some good music under "Tunes."

Manacor

An inland town, the second largest centre of population on the island, within the muncipality of which fall a number of minor calas and, especially, the attractive fishing village of Porto Cristo. Manacor itself is most famous for the artificial pearls (Majorica) invented and made there.

Manacor
The municipal site has an intimidating entrance page, and the English-language tourist information seems to have disappeared. Manacor, its monuments, calas, rural tourism and, under "Discovering Manacor," photos.

InfoManacor
A Spanish-only commercial portal. I have not explored it in depth, but it looks fine, and you might even find a summer job here (look under "Anuncios" for ads beginning with "Empleo."
